Work that starts with what the body is doing, on the understanding that some things cannot be talked through and have to be felt through.

Somatic practice treats sensation, breathing and posture as information rather than symptoms. The work is slow and mostly quiet. Practitioners here range from bodyworkers to people trained in nervous system regulation.
Suits people who understand their situation clearly and still cannot shift it. Less suitable during acute crisis, or for a physical injury that needs a clinician.
Usually sixty to ninety minutes. Much of it is talking, noticing and slowing down. Many practitioners work entirely without touch, and where touch is part of the work it is agreed beforehand.
